Mindfulness meditation is credited to exert beneficial effects on physical and mental health, and cognitive performance. Knowledge about how the brain mediates such effects is slowly starting to emerge. In this talk, I will describe how mindfulness practice changes our brains and how researchers hope to use this knowledge to tailor existing treatments to better target individual needs.
Colline Poirier is a Research Fellow in the Institute of Neuroscience at Newcastle University. Her research involves using neuroimaging techniques (MRI) to develop new biomarkers of mood and well-being and to understand how positive and negative experiences influence brain structure and function.
